Whether you’re enjoying a family BBQ, a delicious sandwich or some tasty chips, a dollop of mayo can really take your meal to another level.
You may think spilling a little on your shirt or carpet is no big deal, but in reality mayonnaise produces an oil-based stain and that makes it very difficult to remove. The most important thing is to act fast and follow our expert advice…
General directions
Lift as much solid residue as possible with a blunt knife. Try not to spread the stain. Follow the directions below for specific fabrics.
How to remove mayonnaise from cotton
If possible, sprinkle the stain with talc or cornflour and allow to stand for a few minutes so that it can absorb the grease, then remove the powder with a soft brush. Any remaining grease will need to be dissolved, gently dab with an alcohol-based solvent such as methylated spirits, blot with paper towels or a white, lint free cloth and allow to evaporate.
Work in a little liquid laundry detergent or washing-up liquid into the area and follow by machine-washing at 40°C with biological detergent.
